"Teaching Nature Awareness and Stewardship"

"It's hard for the modern generation to understand Thoreau,
who lived beside a pond but didn't own water-skies or a snorkel."

-- Bill Vaughn

Accomplishments for 2002

The Cub Scout Leave No Trace program developed by the committee was used as a model for the National Cub Scout Leave No Trace Frontcountry Guidelines program.  Encouraged by Ray Cook the BSA implemented changes, which included Leave No Trace, to Cub Scout advancement requirements.

Don received an award from the Chief of the Forest Service for exemplary service and efforts as an individual Forest Service volunteer.

Don and Bill attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference at Indiana University and participated on the Leave No Trace staff and provided classroom sessions related to outdoor equipment which encourages Leave No Trace principles.

Instituted programs to extend nature awareness to individual unit monthly camping experiences and elementary schools.

The nature awareness and conservation message reached 38,584 people during 2002.
