"Teaching Nature Awareness and Stewardship"

October 2007
Take Only Memories
Leave No Trace
Boy Scout Camporee

This camporee was held at Camp Red Wing near Muncie, Indiana.  The event was organized by the Golden Eagle District of the Crossroads of America Council of the Boy Scouts of America to provide a Leave No Trace learning experience for the district’s youth and adults.  David Largent (LNT Trainer) conceived and developed the camporee and implemented it with the help of 6 key volunteers.  225 youth and adults attended the weekend event.  Patrols rotated through a series of 12 stations, first being taught the LNT principles, and then being “tested”.  The Saturday night campfire program used two small fires: one on a temporary dirt mound the youth built, and the other on a raised fire pan.  Both were removed Sunday morning.
